UNITED Church of Zambia (UCZ) All Saints congregation in Chipata has apologised to members for failure to hold the Sunday service after some congregants locked the church building over alleged abuse of funds by presbytery bishop Jones Mutembo.
On Sunday, aggrieved UCZ members, mainly youths, locked up the gate to the church building to protest against the decision by Bishop Mutembo to increase the congregation’s contribution to the synod from K5,000 to K10,000 for unknown reasons.
The protestors demanded for the presence of the cleric to respond to their ‘burning questions’.
All Saints secretary Amon Chulu said in a statement the entire church building was locked up and even after the locks were broken, members still demanded to be addressed by the bishop.
“We would love to apologise to all the members for the inconvenience caused today [Sunday] and further appeal to all members that whenever there are any grievances within ourselves, always feel free to meet your leaders, so that concerns can always be sorted out in an amicable way,” Mr Chulu said.
