A GROUP of civil society organisations (CSO’s) from Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have implored governments of the two countries to engage citizens as they start to manufacture batteries for electric vehicles.
In December 2022, at a sideline event during the United States (US)- Africa Leaders’ Summit in Washington, the US signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding (MoU) with DRC and Zambia for the development of an integrated value chain for the production of batteries for electric vehicles.
The CSOs say there is need to better manage resources to ensure people of Zambia and DRC have access to clean and affordable energy using available abundant mineral resources.
Association of Mine Suppliers publicity and public relations secretary Thokozile Mwase said this in Lusaka yesterday at a press briefing.
