ECONOMIST Oliver Saasa says the Kwacha is expected to stabilise in the coming months on account of Government addressing challenges faced by Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) and Mopani Copper Mines (MCM), and the return of offshore investors.

Professor Saasa said the local currency is still doing well compared to other countries in the region and that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“We need to attain currency stability, albeit at higher level. It (Kwacha) is stabilising, but perhaps I cannot say much because of so much uncertainties at the moment.

“There is still a problem, but really, comparatively speaking in southern Africa, we are still actually breathing,” he said in his presentation themed ‘Zambia’s economic outlook: Contribution of insurance to economic and social transformation’ at the just-ended Insurance Conference 2023.
