ZAMBIA Revenue Authority (ZRA) collected K105.4 billion in gross revenue from January to November 2023, out of which K14.9 billion went to settle tax refunds, Commissioner General Dingani Banda has said.
And only 888 out of 520,387 active taxpayers, as of September 2023, contributed 80 percent of the gross revenue collected during the first nine months of this year.
Mr Banda said the key factor to the revenue performance is the lower-than-projected copper production.
Speaking during a media briefing yesterday, Mr Banda said from January to September, copper production of 520,182.8 metric tons (mt) was 21 percent below the budget estimate of 658,864.3mt.
“This development resulted in the decline of mining company tax, whose gross collection was K5.3 billion against a target of K12.3 billion, meaning we have a deficit of almost K7 billion.
