OVER 40 women with obstetric fistula in NorthWestern Province have successfully undergone surgery in the past five months.
Obstetric fistula is a hole in the birth canal caused by obstructed labour.
North-Western Province director of health Luckson Chidikita said 44 operations, conducted by the Ministry of Health and Fistula Foundation, were done between June and November 2023.
Dr Chidikita said this yesterday when a team from the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) and the Ministry of Health visited a fistula survivor at Lumwana Level One Hospital in Kalumbila district.
He said a team of doctors have continued to go round the province to identify women with the condition, after which camps are established to operate them.
Dr Chidikita thanked Fistula Foundation for working with Government to put smiles on faces of people who had the condition and were alienated.
He also thanked Government for recruiting critical medical staff and beefing up stock of essential drugs and medical supplies in public health facilities in the region to achieve quality service delivery….https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
