Magic, Buffaloes National Championship contest ends in draw

MATERO Magic on Sunday kept their hopes of winning the 11th National Championship title alive after beating Green Buffaloes at National Sports Development Centre in Lusaka.
Buffaloes beat Magic 91-82 in the first fixture on Saturday but their defeat the following day means the winners will be decided this weekend.
The Zambia Armysponsored side started strongly and narrowly won the first quarter 22-18 but
Magic came breathing fire in the second quarter, which they won 41-30.
Magic continued to dominate with Jojo Bwabwa, Chongo Choona and Augustine Kandulu netting in succession to give them a 55-50 win in the third quarter.
Buffaloes tried to come back in the final quarter through Eddie Vumba and Wilfred Mvula but it was late as Magic held on to win 74-60.
Magic coach David Musonda was pleased with the performance of his players.
“I am really happy with the fight my boys put up. They really fought for this win. I think experience also helped us. The boys came to the party, we will just be fo-cused in game three so that we can win again,” Musonda said.
Buffaloes coach Isaiah Kambidima is hopeful his team will come back stronger in the final game.Meanwhile, the women’s final saw Lusaka Basket Queens beat Dolphins 73-63.
Basket Queens coach Mulenga Mumba was proud of his team.
“I am proud of my girls, they put up a good fight the whole season. These girls really deserve this title because they have worked hard the entire season,” Mumba said.
