THE cholera outbreak has pushed the demand for chlorine up in Lusaka, with most stores running out of the chemical.
According to a market assessment conducted by the Daily Mail last week, most stores are struggling to stock the commodity because
manufacturers are failing to meet the demand.
Cholera broke out in October last year and so far 11,304 cases have been recorded with 448 deaths.
The survey revealed a shortfall of both chlorine powder and liquid, including oral rehydration solution (ORS).
ORS is a combination of water, glucose, sodium and potassium used in the treatment of the diarrhoeal disease.
A check in Shoprite, Pick n Pay and Choppies found the shelves empty..https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
