– 100 contract virus, 10 patients admitted to hospital

COVID-19 cases in Zambia are steadily increasing with over 100 people contracting the novel virus in the third week of this month, of which 10 patients are currently in admission.
Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) infectious diseases specialist Nyuma Mbewe says three out of the 10 coronavirus patients are currently on oxygen at the University Teaching Hospitals (UTH) despite the circulating variants not being as infectious as the previous ones like Delta and Alpha.
In an interview, Dr Mbewe urged people who are yet to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to do so, while those who were immunised should get booster doses.
“For 2024, cumulatively in week one we had over 110 that were confirmed positive out of 859 samples that were sent to the laboratory.
