THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appointed Derrick Kafuli as acting referees manager following the suspension of Aziph Banda.
On Friday, FAZ announced the suspension of Banda to pave way for investigations into alleged match-fixing and victimisation of referees claims.
In a statement issued yesterday by communications manager Sydney Mungala, FAZ general Reuben Kamanga said Kafuli, a former FIFA referee, has emerged as the ideal candidate given the delicate process of restoring the integrity of the refereeing space in the game.
“We have appointed former FIFA referee Derrick Kafuli as acting referees manager. Kafuli’s credentials make him an ideal candidate in our quest to rebuild confidence in the refereeing fraternity,” Kamanga said.
Meanwhile, Kamanga said FAZ has taken note of reported boycotts of matches in three provinces arising from various grievances by referees.
