ROAD Development Agency (RDA) says it has not cancelled processes to award contracts for routine road maintenance.Acting communications and corporate affairs director Anthony Mulowa said in a statement yesterday that RDA has started the process of awarding routine maintenance contracts of trunk, main and district (TMD) roads.
He said a total of 467 lots were tendered out, with Central Province having 59, Copperbelt 50, Southern 61, Lusaka 83, Muchinga 33, Luapula 71, Western 52 and Northern 58.
Routine maintenance works of public roads are carried out by small-scale local contractors, and RDA is mandated to undertake routine maintenance of public roads.
Mr Mulowa said to speed up the award process and complete by the target date of April 30, 2024, RDA intends to set up a subcommittee to specifically consider routine maintenance awards in accordance with section 31(1) (b) of the Public Procurement Act No. 8 of 2020.
“The off-carriageway portion of the routine maintenance contracts is performance-based, covering vegetation control, removal of debris and garbage, cleaning drains, repair of erosion, road line marking, cleaning of road signs and guardrails and minor bridge maintenance,” he said.
