Malaria disturbs ZFDS Samfya outreach

THE Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) medical team undertaking an outreach programme in Samfya has deferred some surgical operations because some patients scheduled for the procedure have developed respiratory tract infections (RTIs) or malaria.
RTIs are infections of parts of the body involved in breathing like sinuses, throat, airways or lungs.
ZFDS team member Robert Banda said some operations have been cancelled because patients should first be treated for malaria before ‘going under the knife’.
Dr Banda, who is registrar in general surgery, said RTIs prompt hyperactive airwaves and can result in the closure of the upper airwave upon slight irritation for a patient under anesthesia…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
