FOUR people have been apprehended for allegedly selling kachasu near University Teaching Hospitals (UTH).
Lusaka City Council (LCC) assistant public relations manager Bulumba Nyambe said the four were apprehended during an inspection conducted by council police and public health officers to ascertain compliance levels on the manufacturing and sale of illicit beer.
He said selling kachasu is not only prohibited but massively contributes to the number of children dropping out of school to go and drink the illicit alcohol, which despite being outlawed continues to thrive as a business in many townships.
“During the operation, it was observed that people have persisted in selling intoxicating beer, thereby disregarding liquor regulations, despite warnings from the local authority,” Mr Nyambe said.
He said for going against the law, which prohibits any person from manufacturing or producing any alcoholic drink, brew, or intoxication using the process of fermentation, it will take its course on the four people to deter wouldbe offenders.
Mr Nyambe said the council will continue with inspections and ensure that the situation is brought under control to protect the public from health hazards associated with such practices.
“We urge residents to report any such violations happening in their compounds for prompt interventions by the council,” he said…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
