A SENIOR economist says Zambia is comparatively in a better position economically than other countries on the continent.Absa Group senior economist Ridle Markus says despite the drought and debt restructuring programme dragging on, the long-term economic outlook is positive.
Mr Markus said Zambia under President Hakainde Hichilema has done well in terms of managing the economy compared to other markets on the continent because it has stuck to the reforms recommended by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He said looking at countries such as Ghana, which is also working to restructure its debt, and others such as Nigeria and Uganda, Zambia is in a better place.
“Zambia is very well placed such that if the two issues of debt restructuring and drought are resolved, it could receive a lot of inflows from international investors because of what is happening in others markets,” Mr Markus said at the Absa economic outlook discussion yesterday. “The story is not completely lost…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/
