CHRISTIANS from various denominations waving palm branches gathered across the country yesterday to celebrate Palm Sunday and the start of Holy Week.
Several worshippers took part in processions that retraced Jesus Christ’s triumphant arrival in Jerusalem, where theChurch of the Holy Sepulchre, where it is traditionally believed that Jesus was crucified and buried, is located.
According to the Bible, Jesus Christ was met by cheering crowds waving palm branches.
Palm Sunday, which celebrates this story, falls at the beginning of Holy Week – the most sacred in the Christian calendar that also includes Good Friday and Easter Sunday.Reflecting on the occasion, Bishop Joseph Kazhila urged Zambians to let the love of God prevail in their lives.
“So we need to learn to co-exist, not to promote acrimony, divisive activities,” the Chingola-based Life Gospel Fellowship Ministries general overseer, said. “We need the forgiveness of God. We need to forgive one another, we can’t keep on fighting and fighting until Christ comes.
“We need to have one mind, one accord, focused on how we can take our country to another level.”
Solwezi Catholic Diocese Bishop Charles Kasonde led Christians and other church leaders in celebrating Palm Sunday in the North-Western provincial capital.
