Capture fish production grows 22% reaching 101,825 metric tonnes

ZAMBIA’S capture fish production has grown by 22 percent, reaching 101,825 metric tons (mt) last year, up from 83,719mt in 2015, an aquaculture expert, Stephen Tembo, has said.
Speaking in Lusaka, Mr Tembo said during the same period, aquaculture production grew from 22,753mt to 76,627mt.
He said capture fisheries production measures the volume of fish catches landed by a country for all commercial, industrial, recreational and subsistence purposes.
Mr Tembo said Zambia’s exponential growth in aquaculture over the last eight years has not matched per capita fish consumption per annum in the country.
