SIX-time national chess champion Andrew Kayonde and FIDE Master (FM) Prince Mulenga today battle for supremacy in a cage match at Urban Hotel in Lusaka.
The two-day event will have two classical games – eight rapid games and 10 blitz games. Both players have declared themselves ready.
International Master Kayonde, who has beaten Mulenga four times in seven meetings, is relishing the challenge.
“My only goal is winning, that is all I am going for. I think Prince has improved over the years but I hold the advantage rightly so. I am going to go in with everything I have. This is going to be a good test for Prince. I hope he has prepared well so that we give the fans a good show,” Kayonde said.
Mulenga said: “This is going to be a very interesting cage match. I have been preparing and I am ready for it. I am going to be at my best. I will try to pick up as many wins as I can. I want to win the top prize. It will not be easy but I will put up a good fight.”
And organiser Brighton Chiumya thanked sponsors for supporting the staging of the cage match.
