GOVERNMENT says the law that will require online broadcasters to get a licence does not extend to whoever is on Facebook or any other social media platform.
The planned amendment of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Act to cater for online broadcasters has caused apprehension among some individuals.
Ministry of Information and Media director for press and media development Modern Mayembe has clarified that the proposed legislation will only target people offering online broadcasting services.
He said for those doing podcasts, live streaming, “they are not our concern as Ministry of Information and Media”.
Mr Mayembe underscored that those doing podcasts and live streaming could offend other laws but not the IBA Act.
He said as a matter of fact, the Ministry of Information and Media encourages podcasts.
“We want more people to do more podcasts. It is happening in many countries where you have doctors doing podcasts where they, for example, explain about diabetes in a short video. We need more of those so that we learn.
“Even political productions are welcome, as long as they do not offend the Cyber Security and Cyber-Crimes Act,” Mr Mayembe said….https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
