OVER 100 livestock deaths have been recorded in one ward in Gwembe district last week due to drying up of water sources and lack of pasture.
Gwembe Member of Parliament Tyson Simuzingili said he has been receiving complaints from different parts of Gwembe of livestock dying due to drying up of water sources and lack of adequate grazing areas due to drought.
Mr Simuzingili said all grazing areas in most parts of the district have completely dried up.
“The rain pattern experienced in the previous season has adversely affected Gwembe, and livestock farmers are feeling the impact. The situation is dire and has caused serious panic,” he said.
Mr Simuzingili has appealed to Government, through the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, to expedite the distribution of hay and stock feed planned as part of the hunger mitigation measures to prevent more animals from dying.
He said some farmers have resorted to selling their livestock at very low prices for fear of losing them completely to death…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/
