The DIAGEO team demonstrated their commitment to environmental sustainability through joining in the cleanup of Bauleni Farmer’s market in Lusaka on Monday.
“This year, our Community Day will concentrate on sustainability, with a city cleanup initiative in partnership with local community based initiative Manja Pamodzi,” Diageo Country representative, Lilami Lilami said during the cleanup.
He said the clean-up was a demonstration of Diageo’s unwavering commitment to uplifting the hospitality industry through tangible benefits geared towards on-trade outlets.
The clean-up was done by Diageo Bar Academy trainees. Diageo Bar academy is a programme that aims to empower 750 individuals from a practical and theoretical training perspective through offering training opportunities to young people within the hospitality industry.
Mr Lilami explained that the Diageo Bar Academy initiative is grounded on three fundamental pillars of Education, Ignite, and Community.

“In terms of education, Diageo’s Learning for Life Initiatives and Diageo Bar academy training aim to empower individuals within the hospitality community by equipping them with essential skills for professional development,” he said.
Through these programmes, participants gain valuable insights and training designed to enhance their establishments and elevate service standards.

Explaining the second pillar themed Ignite, Mr Lilami said the approach emphasizes the creation of a vibrant community of industry professionals who are dedicated to promoting the ideals of ‘drinking better’ by fostering a culture of excellence and responsible drinking.

“In terms of Community, what we are doing here is a perfect example. Community Days is devoted to celebrating bartenders by providing them with practical skills training and opportunities for camaraderie. Our goal is to give back to these vital members of the hospitality sector and, together, elevate the industry and enhance the consumer drinking experience,” he said.
He said under the hashtags #DiageoCares, #DBACares, and #SpiritOfProgress, participants will be motivated to care for their environment while engaging in meaningful community service.
“Our vision is to inspire all participants and cultivate a community that is dedicated to the continuous progression of the hospitality industry, ensuring a bright and sustainable future for all,” he said.
