OVER half a million Zambian households who mainly consume below 200 units will have a 20 percent reduction in new electricity tariffs that takes effect today while over 14,000 small businesses such as barbershops and salons will see rates reducing by 15 percent.
On October 10, 2024 the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) approved Zesco Limited’s emergency tariff application that was premised on a requirement to raise funds needed to secure additional power imports and mitigate, in the immediate term, the power supply gap occasioned by the droughtinduced hydro-power generation deficit.
Zesco requires revenue of about US$15 million monthly to partially cover the US$94 million purchase cost of 788 megawatts (MW).
