“CELEBRATE now and begin to prepare for the tournament,” President Hakainde Hichilema said last night after Zambia beat Sierra Leone 2-0 in a 2025 Morocco Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON) fixture to finish top in Group G.
Midfielder Emmanuel Banda and striker Kennedy Musonda’s goals were enough for Zambia to amass 13 points, one better than Ivory Coast, the African champions.
“Another excellent performance by the Chipolopolo Boys. Strong finish on the AfCON qualifiers as group leaders. Well done, boys! Celebrate now and begin to prepare for the tournament,” the head of State said on his Facebook page.
Apart from Zambia, Southern Africa will be represented by Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa and Zimbabwe at the Morocco finals.
The continental showpiece will run from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
