FUGITIVE Petauke Central independent Member of Parliament Emmanuel Jay Banda, popularly known as Jay Jay, was yesterday given seven days to attend parliamentary proceedings failure to which his seat will be declared vacant.

Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti, in rendering her ruling on the matter, said the seven days ultimatum is effective yesterday.

Ms Mutti put the matter to a vote after a division was caused to decide on whether the fugitive law-maker is given seven days to show up in the House or have his seat declared vacant.

Three MPs abstained, 25 wanted the seat declared vacant while 62 voted that he is given seven days to report for parliamentary work.

Mr Banda, who is facing two counts of attempted murder and aggravated robbery, escaped from lawful custody at Chipata Central District Hospital in June this year where he was being treated for a medical condition while remanded at Namuseche Correctional Facility.
