RULING UPND has adopted Nason Musonda as its candidate for the Kawambwa Central parliamentary by-election, with party chairperson for elections Gary Nkombo saying there is stiff competition in the party but no acrimony.

Mr Nkombo, who is Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, said this when he introduced Mr Musonda, an engineer who once worked for Rural Electricity Authority (REA), as the ruling party’s candidate for the December 20 by-elections occasioned by the jailing of Patriotic Front’s Nickson Chilangwa.

“UPND is one party. [There is] stiff competition but no acrimony,” Mr Nkombo, who was flanked by UPND secretary-general Batuke Imenda, said.

Mr Nkombo praised the role played by Andrew Wiza Sindazi, who came second on the UPND ticket in 2021 for holding the party together in Kawambwa.
