THE adult and children hospitals at University Teaching Hospitals (UTH) in Lusaka have received 10 oxygen concentrators to boost respiratory patient outcomes.
The oxygen concentrators were handed over to UTH yesterday by United States Agency for International Development Tuberculosis local organisation network (USAID-TBLON) through the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) medical officer Mutumwa Muyangana.
“These concentrators will enable the hospitals to provide critical care treatment to not only TB patients but also other patients who may require oxygen support,” Dr Muyangana said.
UTH Children’s Hospital senior medical superintendent Musaku Mwenechanya said the donation is welcome as the institution spends huge amounts of money to procure oxygen concentrators.
“We have pneumonia children who need oxygen,” Dr Mwenechanya said.
“The hospital spends a lot of money to procure oxygen concentrators and this helps reduce the expenditure burden on the hospital.”
