COPPER Queens’ skipper Barbara Banda and striker Rachael Kundananji have been nominated for the 2024 African footballer-of-the-year award while Catherine Musonda is vying for the goalkeeper-of-the year accolade.
On Wednesday, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled the list of nominees, with the Copper Queens also being nominated for the national team-of-the-year award.
The awards will be held on December 16 in Marrakech, Morocco. Kundananji, who plays for United States of America (USA) side Bay FC, attributed her nomination to hard work.
“I am happy to announce that I have been nominated on the player-of-the-year (women) at the 2024 CAF Awards.
Surely, hard work and consistency definitely pay off,” she posted on her Facebook page.
Banda has been enjoying form at USA outfit Orlando Pride, leading them to winning the National Women Soccer League (NWSL) shield and play-off f inal.
So far, Banda has scored 19 goals – 16 in the league and three in the play-offs.
Banda was instrumental for Zambia at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where she scored a hat-trick in the 6-5 loss to Australia in a Group B fixture.
