PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says his Government is determined to seize tainted property and use the proceeds for the benefit of ordinary Zambians.
The President says one can cry if they see how Zambia was run in the past. “But instead of crying, we are turning things around,” he said when he launched the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) public-private collaboration for broadening access to finance in Lusaka yesterday.
“Those who got what belongs to Zambians, we are going for those assets and returning them to you (people). When you hear someone complaining that ‘I’m being targeted, this is political’, ask them to tell you if they got what isn’t theirs.
“We are here to restore assets for you the people so that we can support this market booster loan. We can go to Absa and put money on the table and do what we are doing today.”
Absa Bank has pumped K1 billion into CEEC to loan out to small-scale business owners.
