THE Southern African Development Community (SADC) has resolved to extend for another year the presence of regional troops deployed to fight rebels in conflict-torn eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The extension aims to stabilise the conflict-stricken eastern region of DRC, which has been marred by ongoing violence and humanitarian crises, displacing over 6.4 million people, predominantly women and children.
The extraordinary summit in Harare, Zimbabwe, where President Hakainde Hichilema was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mulambo Haimbe, also pledged to work toward peace in Mozambique, where disputed elections stoked unrest.
