THE Economic and Financial Crimes Court (EFCC) has convicted Spax Mining Limited of tax evasion involving over K4 million.
After admitting the charge through a plea bargain, Spax Mining Limited refunded the K4,490,523 tax evasion to the State and also paid K100,000 legal costs for the lawsuit filed against the company by Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).
Spax Mining Limited, represented by its owner Kabaso Mulenga, alias Spax, was also sentenced to pay a K13,500 fine.
This is contained in a statement issued by ZRA corporate communications manager Oliver Nzala.
Mr Nzala said in its desire to crack down on tax evasion in the country, ZRA instituted criminal proceedings against Spax Mining Limited on the Copperbelt.
The company was accused of furnishing false statements and returns contrary to sections 43 of the Value Added Tax Act Chapter 331.
Between January 1, 2022 and August 31, 2023, the company, in purported compliance with the law, provided information to ZRA to show that it was supplied with taxable supplies.
