3,500 wells in Chililabombwe to be buried

AS the death toll from cholera rose to nine yesterday, about 3,500 shallow wells are expected to be buried in the border town of Chililabombwe following laboratory tests, which revealed contamination.
Two more people have died of cholera, one in Kitwe and the other in Nakonde, Muchinga Province, the first to report cases of the water-borne disease.
With the latest deaths, it means the death toll is now at nine, with Chililabombwe accounting for seven.
Kitwe recorded its first death on Sunday while Nakonde did so on Saturday.
Kitwe district health director Francis Liyawalii said the death involved a truck driver who was travelling from Kasumbalesa border in Chililabombwe to Ndola.
“We recorded a brought-in-dead case from a truck driver whose test result came out positive for cholera,” Dr Liyawalii said.
