A CAR dealer and a miner have been sentenced to six years’ imprisonment with hard labour for a crime very unrelated to their trades – wildlife theft.
The two were found in possession of over 200 kilogrammes (kg) of lion bones, including 17 skulls.
Before jailing Alick Bulayani, a car dealer, and Erasmas Mukalahani, a miner, Lusaka resident magistrate Crispin Hampungani said the convicts deserved a maximum 10-year jail term.
This was after he found the duo guilty of illegal possession of protected trophy.
“The offence covers a mandatory sentence of five years. Looking at the number of bones found with the accused, you deserved the maximum sentence of 10 years,” magistrate Hampungani said.
The magistrate regretted the huge number of lions that were killed….https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
