TEN employees of Kawambwa Sugar have drowned while six others survived after the boat they were in capsized.
The workers, all male, were going to work when the incident occurred.
Luapula Province police commanding officer Mwala Yuyi said the incident happened yesterday at about 07:00 hours.
According to police, the 16 workers were using a community banana boat to cross Lwena River when the accident happened.
Mr Yuyi explained that the man who was paddling the boat informed the workers that his paddle had broken right before the boat was swept by the current, struck a rock, and capsized.
Mr Yuyi named the victims as Paul Kapaya, 70, Thomas Kabuya, 36, Fred Kaunda, 18, James Mutale, 21, McMillan Kabange, John Mubolela, 20, and Steven Kasapo, aged 20.
Additionally, Luckson Mwila, 21, Ignatius Chungu, 20, and Aaron Mwale, 21, are among the victims, with Aaron’s body yet to be retrieved…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
