NGOCC for Constitution amendment

NON-GOVERNMENTAL Gender Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has backed calls for constitutional amendment aimed at, among other proposals, increasing the participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in politics.
NGOCC board chairperson Beauty Katebe said the current electoral system has not successfully created an equitable political space.
Speaking during a media briefing yesterday, Ms Katebe said the decision was taken during a membership consultative meeting held recently.
“We feel that there is still a need for the government to ensure that the process is open and transparent, legitimate, comprehensive, and guided by a clear roadmap that is informed by a broad consultative process,” she said.
Ms Katebe said the organisation has been advocating for a more inclusive composition of elected persons both at parliamentary and local government levels.
She added that beyond constitutional amendments, NGOCC has also been advocating for a referendum to expand the Bill of Rights in the Republican Constitution, ensuring stronger legal protection for equal participation…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
