ZAMBIA’S non-traditional export (NTE) earnings increased by 4.8 percent in February this year, reaching K7.5 billion, up from K7.2 billion recorded the previous month, accounting for 30 percent of the total export earnings.
According to the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) monthly bulletin, agricultural products made up 29 percent of all NTEs in February, up from 23.8 percent in January.ZamStats acting statistician general Sheila Mudenda said export earnings from agricultural products increased by 28 percent in February, rising from K1.7 billion in January to K2.2 billion.
“The major export commodities were tobacco (partly or wholly stemmed or stripped), which accounted for 33 percent, followed by coffee (not roasted or decaffeinated) at 5.3 percent, and raw cane sugar at 4.9 percent,” she explained.
