POWER 1 ZESCO 0
THREE more wins will see Power Dynamos being declared champions of the 2024/25 season with two games to spare after beating second-placed Zesco United yesterday, with coach Osward Mutapa saying one hand is on the Super League trophy.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game. At least we have shown the consistency and the determination. This is a game we didn’t create a lot of chances but championship material, that’s what it means. You have to grind results even if you don’t play well. Yes, one hand is on the trophy but there is still work to be done,” Mutapa said in a post-match interview after a Week 29 tie watched by a capacity crowd.
Zesco interim coach Emmanuel Siwale is hoping Power could drop points going forward.
“It is not a good result. We have dropped points. The boys played well. We have five games to go. No one has won the title yet. We will keep pushing. This is football, anything can happen,” Siwale said.Power have 57 points while Zesco have 51.
Power are away to Napsa Stars on Wednesday, host Nkwazi on April 9 and face Nkana in a Kitwe derby on April 19.
Victories in the next three matches will push Power to 66 points.
Emerging victorious in the remaining five matches will see Power finishing with 72 points, Zesco 66, Nkana, Kabwe Warriors and champions Red Arrows 65, 63 and 62 respectively.
Striker Ishmael Ankobo scored the only goal of the match to extend Power’s unbeaten run to 10 games.
Zesco missed a golden opportunity after Mukuka Chanda’s square pass in the box was missed by striker Alex Ng’onga but the ball fell to his partner, George Ngoma, who directed it wide from close range in the 47th minute.
Four minutes later, Zesco were made to regret as Ankobo shook the net.
Defender Dominic Chanda sent a long ball which Brian Masanyinga controlled and beat Fred Mwiche and cut the ball to Ankobo, who sent it into the net.
Zesco piled pressure in search of an equaliser but Power defended well to hold on to the lead and claim their eighth consecutive win and remain unbeaten in 10 matches, keeping eight clean sheets….https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
