OVER 10,000 gender-based violence cases were noted countrywide in the third quarter of this year, out of which 7,305 were criminal and 3,120 non-criminal.
The criminal GBV cases show an increase by 1,002 compared to 6,303 cases noted during the same period in 2022.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said in a statement yesterday that Lusaka Province highlighted the highest number of GBV criminal cases at 2,025, followed by Copperbelt with 1,357 cases.
“Out of the 7,305 GBV criminal cases reported countrywide, 1,366 were taken to court, resulting in 160 convictions and seven acquittals, while 837 are pending in various courts of law around the country,” Mr Hamoonga said. https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
