A JUDGE has ordered that a paternity test be conducted to ascertain if former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo is the father of the children of his alleged mistress who claims he has abandoned the toddlers.
Lusaka High Court Judge Mwila Kombe has directed that blood samples be taken from Mercy Cowham’s four children to determine their paternity.
“I am in the premises, satisfied that it is in the best interest of the children that the paternity test be conducted so as to ascertain their affiliation and family status,” Judge Kombe said in a ruling rendered 10 days ago.
This is in a 2022 case in which Mr Lusambo sued Ms Cowham demanding exemplary damages for the libellous statement she issued alleging that he fathered four children with her and abandoned them.
The former Kabushi lawmaker filed the lawsuit after the defendant went on social media claiming that he had been in a sexual relationship with her for over seven years.
In the petition, the former MP also demanded for a paternity test to prove that he is not the father, which Ms Cowham, who is demanding K13,000 child maintenance from the petitioner, agreed to.
In latest court documents, Judge Kombe has allowed that a DNA test be conducted on the four children.
