TO CURTAIL future cholera outbreaks, Government plans to modernise and expand Lusaka Intercity Bus Terminus to decongest the facility and enhance sanitation.
Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata says the fight against cholera cannot be won if public facilities remain overcrowded.
Ms Mulyata says with Lusaka being a cholera epicentre, there is need to see to it that passengers in bus stations are disinfected on their feet as they move to various destinations.
She said this when she toured and flagged off a cleaning and spraying exercise at Lusaka Intercity Bus Terminus.
Ms Mulyata said people who do not want to adhere to set health guidelines risk prosecution or being fined as per new statutory instrument (SI) recently endorsed by Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo.
“Bama bus tifuna ma bucket bantu basamba mumanja [bus operators, organise buckets for people to wash their hands]. Mu bus kukapezeka muntu odwala, nikumuselusa….kuli ma clinic kuli konse mwamupeleka uyo muntu [if anyone in the bus shows symptoms of cholera, take him or her to a nearby clinic].
“Osagula vija vokudya vamu ma road, ati mwagula vitumbuwa, apa betizakapeza bacita ivo timanga six months [Don’t buy food from the streets, if we find you doing that you will be jailed for six months],” the minister said…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
