GOVERNMENT has developed a special social protection relief scheme that will see vulnerable families who have lost breadwinners to cholera start receiving financial assistance starting this month.
Minister of Community Development and Social Services Doreen Mwamba says the intervention will target elderly, single-headed households who have lost breadwinners to cholera, and people who survived from the disease and have had their businesses affected.
Ms Mwamba said social welfare officers are currently going round in communities to register beneficiaries, after which an assessment will be done and monetary relief offered.
“The Department of Social Welfare under the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services is registering cholera survivors whose businesses have been affected after being admitted at the cholera centre. The ministry is also working with the Ministry of Health in identifying families who lost breadwinners to cholera. These are elderly parents, widows whose relatives succumbed to cholera,” the minister said.
Ms Mwamba said the scheme is in line with the New Dawn administration’s policy of empowering the nation through various social interventions…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
