PRESSURE on the Kwacha against the United States dollar and volatile international oil prices have triggered an upward adjustment in the price of petrol from K29.98 per litre to K34.19 effective today.
Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has further announced an increase in diesel prices with a litre now selling at K32.15 from K 29.96, while the cost of kerosene has been maintained at K20.44 per litre.
Further, the price of Jet A-1, the aviation fuel used at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, has been adjusted upwards from K29.29 to K32.69.
This is according to a statement issued yesterday by ERB board chairperson Reynolds Bowa.
“During the month of January 2024, there was significant depreciation of the Kwacha against the United States dollar,” he explained.
“The average exchange rate depreciated by 9.81 percent.
The depreciation was mainly attributed to increased demand for foreign currency from key sectors of the economy, particularly energy and agriculture.”..https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
