Nine-year-old Margret Bwalya is among the players that have made it to the final round of the chess national selection trials.
Bwalya put up an impressive performance in the third round of the trials held over the weekend in Lusaka to book a place in the last trials.
She will compete for the final five slots for women against Candidate Master (CM) Constance Mbatha, Daisy Simenda, Lina Mululu, Naomi Mwale, Victoria Mweetwa, Portia Mutubanya, Namakau Likando, Nilla Sauti and Mary Mashane.
The men’s team has International Master (IM) Andrew Kayonde, Boniface Ng’onga, Timothy Kabwe, Michael Kaoma, Chola Musonda, Charles Hapaku, Maketo Nyambe, James Dimba and FIDE Masters (FMs) Nase Lungu and Daniel Mulenga.
Chess Federation of Zambia president Leslie Chikuse said in an interview yesterday that the final selection trials will be tough because all the 20 players that have qualified are good.
“We had a number of players coming from outside Lusaka, an indication that we are spreading our structures to other provinces,’’ he said…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/
