PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has delegated Minister of Finance and National Planning Situmbeko Musokotwane to represent him at this year’s Africa Mining Indaba, which opens today in South Africa.
The four-day summit, themed ‘Embracing the power of positive disruption: A bold new future for African mining’, will be graced by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The event showcases Africa’s commitment to attracting investment in its mining sector where key decision-makers,
representing the entire continent’s mining value chain, converge to discuss the future of the sector.
First secretary for press and public relations at the Zambian mission in Pretoria, Tamara Nyirenda, said in a statement yesterday, that Dr Musokotwane arrived in Cape Town yesterday.
“The indaba has attracted more than 8,100 delegates, 900 investors, 700 mining companies, as well as 94 government officials drawn from different countries.
“The minister is expected to hold a number of bilateral and side-line meetings with potential investors,” Ms Nyirenda said.
She said the summit provides a platform for key stakeholders from the mining industry to share investment opportunities and best practices.
