IN RESPONSE to the call by President Hakainde Hichilema for the international community to assist Zambia manage the impending food insecurity due to drought, Ireland has committed €300,000 to the cause through the World Food Programme (WFP).
Irish Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Darragh O’brien says the support will help the Zambian government implement measures to mitigate effects of drought on the population.
Mr O’brien said Ireland is offering the support in the spirit of partnership as equal nations and equal citizens.
He said this yesterday when he called on acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mulambo Haimbe.
The two ministers also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance political consultation which was set up in June 2018.
