ZAMBIA has been elected council member of Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), a 48-member international organisation chaired by former Secretary-General of United Nations Ban Ki-moon. Minister of Green Economy and Environment Mike Mposha presented Zambia’s candidature to the 13th Session
of the Assembly and the 17th Session of the Council at GGGI Headquarters in Seoul, South Korea.
GGGI is a treaty-based international organisation formed in 2012 that is dedicated to promoting sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.
Mr Ban is president of the assembly and chair of the council of GGGI, which has its headquarters in Seoul.
And speaking during a ministerial panel discussion under the theme: ‘Addressing Plastic Pollution in Context of Green Growth’, Mr Mposha said Zambia is facing an escalating waste management problem that is negatively impacting economic, environmental and social sustainability.
He, however, said waste also provides opportunities for investment.
