EMMANUEL Jay Jay Banda, the fugitive lawmaker who escaped police custody by jumping through a hospital window on the night of August 4, has been arrested in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu told journalists at his office yesterday that Mr Banda now awaits extradition to Zambia to answer to charges of aggravated robbery and attempted murder.
Police had placed a K2 million bounty on his head.
On Tuesday, Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti issued a seven-day ultimatum for Mr Banda, who is Member of Parliament for Petauke Central, to report to Parliament or lose his seat.
According to Mr Mwiimbu, Mr Banda was renting a flat in the Zimbabwean capital city, and was traced with the involvement of Interpol.
