MINISTRY of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana yesterday met Chanda Kasolo and Amos Malupenga in his quest to engage former government officials on governance issues.
Mr Kawana observed that it is important to engage former government officials in order to benefit from their experience, suggestions, and institutional memory, a view shared by his predecessors.
“You cannot isolate yourselves without working together with others who have held these offices before,” Mr Malupenga said.
“It’s important to take time and learn from those who have been there to avoid obvious mistakes. If we consult those that have been there, we will know the pitfalls.”
Mr Kasolo noted that the Ministry of Information and Media is a pillar of government communication because of its responsibility to watch over the welfare of journalists, who are the fourth estate.
He disclosed that he occasionally interacts with Mr Kawana, noting that he will always advise when consulted.
He urged him to maintain professionalism and not to allow politicians to use him to dictate the editorial policy of media houses.
