Kampyongo’s wife denied bail again

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Court (EFCC) has for the second time refused to grant bail pending appeal to former Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo’s wife, Wanziya Chirwa.

The High Court division of the specialised court dismissed Chirwa’s renewed bail application because the convict failed to disclose exceptional circumstances as to why she should be released on bail.

“Based on the fact that the applicant has not disclosed any exceptional circumstance and therefore not satisfied the stringent requirements for a person of her legal status, we decline to grant the application for bail pending appeal,” the ruling reads.

Chirwa renewed her bail application before the High Court after the same application was denied at the Lusaka Magistrates Court’s EFCC division.
