GOVERNMENT has evacuated renowned Copperbelt comedian Webster Chiluba, popularly known as Kasaka, to Lusaka to receive specialised treatment at Maina Soko Medical Centre.
Mr Chiluba is scheduled to be treated for a severe swelling in his feet.
Government, through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, facilitated the evacuation of the humourist from Copperbelt to Lusaka.
Minister of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana confirmed the evacuation in a statement posted online yesterday.
“This afternoon [yesterday], Government, through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, facilitated the evacuation of popular Copperbelt comedian and MC Webster Chiluba, popularly known as Kasaka, who has been unwell, to Maina Soko Medical Centre,” he said.
Mr Kawana said Government has put in place critical interventions such as social security cover to secure the well-being of artists.
Mr Kawana said last year, Government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) to secure the well-being of artists.
“It is our call to artists not to wait for the worst thing to happen but to reach out to institutions like NAPSA and secure their policies thereby securing themselves and their families,” he said.
