GOVERNMENT is this year expected to reconstruct over 16km of township roads in Ndola, according to the mayor, Jones Kalyati.
The reconstruction of the 16.2km of township roads is expected to commence soon as the process has reached procurement stage.
Mr Kalyati said the local authority engaged Government to reconstruct some township roads in the district as most of them are worn out and dilapidated.
Speaking during a media briefing, Mr Kalyati said some roads have been selected for reconstruction in view of the development.
He named the roads earmarked for reconstruction as follows: President Avenue (2.8km), Maina Soko (0.4km), Lowenthal (2.9km), Kwacha (3.1km), Petauke Cresent (2.8km), Kabelenga (2.2km, Chella-Ferror (0.6km) and Chifubu (1.4km).
“This project has been tendered at national level and we are at procuring stage at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development,” Mr Kalyati said.
He said most of the roads in Ndola were last worked on in the 1990s, hence the need to work on them to ensure that there is a good road network to promote economic development.
Mr Kalyati said it is the responsibility of the local authority to work on township roads to enhance the movements of people.
He said the council is committed to improving the face of Ndola, and new developments are expected to take place to transform the city and cartering for the growing population..https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
