THE rehabilitation and expansion of the 34-kilometre Chingola-Kasumbalesa road is almost completed with only minor works remaining.

The road, which is being done under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, will be handed over to Government in the next two weeks. Government signed a US$31 million concession agreement with Turbo-ka-Chin Investment Consortium on October 31, 2022.

Speaking after touring the road, which includes Konkola Toll Plaza, Public Private Partnership Council (PPPC) member Noel Nkhoma said the road was the first concession agreement project to be signed in the road sector because of its significance.

“This is an artery, it is the lifeline for trade between Zambia and the rest of the SADC region. Out of all the borders we have, the Kasumbalesa border is the busiest,” he said.
