THE new Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Policy will now act as a driving force to align all other policies and legislation aimed at facilitating and providing for a conducive business environment for the sub-sector, says Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Permanent Secretary Subeta Mutelo.
Ms Mutelo said SMEs represent about 90 percent of businesses and more than 50 percent of employment worldwide. She said formal SMEs contribute up to 40 percent of national income (GDP) in emerging economies.
